Memories Scrapbooking Expo Reviewed

March 30-31, 2007 was the annual scrapbooking convention in Columbus, OH: Memories Scrapbooking Expo. More than 50 scrapbooking, papercrafting, and rubber stamp businesses were represented at the expo. Vendors offered make-n-takes and demonstrations at their booth. If you could get close enough, you could find out how to use the latest and greatest tools and techniques on the market. Classes were offered throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.

The first class I attended was a "Sunken Treasure" mini album in a box. The class was taught by Cara Miller of Cara Miller Designs. Her booth at the expo featured "Are You Board" board books. These are mini scrapbooks that come in a kit that you can put together yourself. The board books are adorable. Cara's web site offers subscriptions to the kit club in 1, 3, or 6 month increments. The class was a little different from the board books, though. The box was designed to look like a worn leather treasure chest. Inside is a mini accordian album that I can't wait to make into a treasure map with my own photos.

The other class I attended on Saturday was presented by Brandy, representing Brindy Wilson. Brindy is the owner of Brindy's Giftables. Brindy also sells kits with which you can make your own mini-book, scrapbook page, or other project. In this class we learned to make a book out of cardstock and envelopes. Coordinating stickers and ribbon set off the book to give it a theme. The envelopes are glued together and attached to the inside of the book to make a pop-out accordian that will hold all your photos and journaling.

This particular expo takes place in Ohio, New Jersey, and Florida each year. The New Jersey show is in April and the Florida show is in November. A day at this event is a good way to learn to techniques, find new and useful tools, or build up your stash of supplies.
