Recycling Objects New Trend For Crafters

Press Release - August 22, 2006

CraftyPlaces.com has a bead on a new crafting trend: transforming found objects into one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

Los Alamitos, CA (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) August 22, 2006 – Popular shows such as "Extreme Makeover" and "The Swan" have spawned a new generation of crafters, who are taking salvaged objects and making them unique, with the help of the crafters website, Crafty Places.

Crafters are becoming more environmentally aware, choosing to alter objects that would normally be thrown away.

"This shift in crafting trends is becoming huge," say Melissa Trippel of CraftyPlaces.com. "It broadens our world of crafting and opens the door to so many possibilities. Virtually anything that isn't nailed down is fair game in the world of altered craft projects."

Anything found in today's disposable world can be used in creating crafts: plastics, paper, cardboard, glass, soft and hard metals, and more.

"These items are perfect for Craft-Cycling," says Melissa Trippel. "Crafters are becoming more environmentally aware, choosing to alter objects that would normally be thrown away."

"Instead of trashing those famous AOL CD cases, why not alter and beautify them? They can become totally unique gifts, if you can part with them when you're done," says Sheri Hauk of Sewing at Crafty Places.

Other items that are perfect for altering are light switch covers, cans, glass bottles, plastic containers, boxes, office supplies and bathroom fixtures. Even hot beverage sleeves can be transformed.

"Those sleeves make perfect mini-scrapbooks. All you need is a craft knife, cardstock, pencil, scissors, and a two-inch strip of ribbon," says Sheri. "Recycled objects, even the simplest ones, are special. They make terrific presents."

"Finding inspiration in other people's trash can be addictive though," says Melissa. "Once you get started, nothing around the house gets thrown out — it all gets Craft-Cycled!"
