Giving Heritage Layouts A Fresh Look

Giving Heritage Layouts a Fresh Look submitted by Tina Parker

Do you have the impression that all heritage layouts need to be done in muted colors and feature only long dead relatives? Think again! Giving your heritage layouts a punch of vibrant color and featuring the living keeps your heritage albums fresh and interesting. In the layout “Their sacrifice…Our freedom” I used bright patriotic colors and plenty of modern bling to draw attention to the military heritage in my family. The juxtaposition of old photos and new on this layout gives the feeling of continuity that I wanted to convey even if the viewer does not read the journaling.

It also allows for current members to be apart of their family history. The picture strip along the bottom gives plenty of room for including many family members on the layout. This type of layout really makes family history come alive and helps even the youngest members feel a connection to the past. The layout uses Bazzill cardstock and printed paper from Reminisce. The bling (with the exception of the stars) is a combination of EK’s Precious Finds and Me & My Big Idea’s icon line, the USA snaps are from K&Co. The journaling was printed on a transparency from 3M and the fonts used are Bazooka and Ariel.
