Beach Fun Scapbook Layout Project

My husband and I made a mini-vacation out of a trip to Florida last fall for a friend's wedding. We spent a day doing fun beach stuff. As land-locked Midwesterners, the day of sun and fun was so refreshing. To capture the feeling of that day, I made this page.

I trimmed the photos so that they would piece together to make a larger photo block. This is a good way to use a lot of photos on one page. You can crop the photos and arrange them as though they were quilt pieces (or puzzle pieces).

The rest of the layout I kept pretty simple. I wanted to highlight the stuff we did that day, so the journaling really needed to stand out. I used a sheet of notepaper from Knock Knock to make a list of the things we did that day. On your own "day in the life" page, you could even use a page from a day planner or calendar for the journaling.

The color palette is monochromatic, picking up the blue of the water in the photos. There is only one patterned paper on this page so the viewer does not get distracted by competing patterns. The title, "Beach Fun", consists of chipboard letters. Each word is a different type and color. The only embellishments are large photo corners punched from a coordinating blue cardstock.

I purposely left a lot of white space on the top. Even though most of my layouts are for a 12×12 album, when I tire of that size and shape I can add variation by changing the size of my design within the 12×12 page. This also allows me to create pages that are less busy and more suited to the theme of the page.

Less is more in representing a day of simple pleasures. This page also didn't take much time to create… so I could afford to dedicate one simple day to a whole page in my album.
