Have you ever searched the internet for a free pattern? Maybe it was for a quick project or just for an idea. We found that many manufacturer's have free patterns on their sites, just waiting for you to come and download. We have put together a list of all the sewing and quilting manufacturer's that we were able to find, who have free patterns or projects available for download.

Here are the manufacturers* internet address's in alphabetical order.

These manufacturer's have some really great patterns, and ideas that are different from the free patterns that you can get from other sites. These companies have also made it so that the patterns are easy to read and they make sure that all supplies needed are given in the instructions.

*Note: Some of these websites can be a bit more difficult to find the free projects, but, we found them, and so can you!

Tutorial: Hand Sew Felt

Future Girl has a tutorial on hand sewing felt. I ran across it, and thought it was a great way for a beginner to get started. She has documented a simple stitch, and one that is great for making softies (or stuffies). I have used this same stitch to make several softies. This tutorial is definitely recommended reading for anyone who wants to start sewing felt items.

What? No Pattern Required

Have you ever had that perfect pair of pajama pants or shirt? Maybe it was a different type of garment. Have you ever been desperate enough to try and recreate a pattern using your old garment? Well, I found a simple tutorial to help you. Threads.com has a great little tutorial, mostly pictures, and a little wording, but there is enough there to simplify the process enough to make your own. How To Make An Apron

In my mother's day, women used to take the collar off a frayed shirt, turn it around, and stitch it back on. When that side wore out, they often used the fabric to make something else—a quilt or, in this case, an apron. Patterned fabrics from one shirt can be used to edge an apron cut from another. It's easy to make attractive complementary combinations to create a vintage-style apron.
